Dog kennels - A benefit for members!

K9 is the Union’s dog committee, responsible for managing ULS dog runs. Since 2015, 14
dog kennels have been available for rent through Ultuna Student Union. These dog kennels are
located behind Friskis & Svettis Ultuna. See the map and pictures of the dog kennels further
down the page.

To rent a dog kennel, you must be a full member of Ultuna Student Union.

General Information About the Dog Runs

The number of dogs allowed in each kennel depends on their size. The dog kennels are 21 m². According to Chapter 10, Section 4 of the Swedish Board of Agriculture’s regulations and general advice on keeping dogs and cats (Saknr. L 102), only one dog over 55 cm in height at the withers is allowed per kennel. Dogs under 55 cm may share a kennel with another dog under 55 cm. For more information on rules regarding the number of dogs per run, visit the Swedish Board of Agriculture’s website.

The dog kennels are equipped with dog houses and raised beds. About one-third of the run is covered. You may furnish the kennel further with, for example, blankets, straw, toys, or similar items. We prefer that your dog has quiet toys (no squeaky toys, etc.) to reduce noise and increase comfort for the other dogs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can join the waiting list for a dog run?

To join the waiting list, you must be at least a supporting member of Ultuna Student Union. It is okay to join the list even before starting your studies at SLU. Members of VMF can also join the list but must have a supporting membership in ULS. Full members of ULS are prioritized first on the waiting list. Due to long waiting times, VMF members are encouraged to join the VMF dog kennels first, which can be done here: https://vmf.se/for-medlemmar/hundgardar/

How do I join the waiting list?

You can join the list by filling out the form at the bottom of the page or by emailing uls_K9@stud.slu.se. Your submission should include the following information (either in the “your message” field in the form or in the email):

  • Name
  • Personal ID number
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • Year of enrollment
  • Program
  • Preferred method of contact (Email or Text message)

Information About Your Dog:

  • Name
  • Breed
  • Birthdate (month/year)
  • Gender
  • Height at withers
  • Are you willing to share a dog run with another dog? (only if your dog is under 55 cm at the withers)

Each year, you must renew your spot on the waiting list to keep it. We will send an email regarding this in April, and you renew your place by replying. By submitting your information, you agree that your personal data will be stored by K9.

How long is the usual waiting time for a dog kennel?

It can vary but is usually around one year. Turnover is often fastest at the beginning and end of terms. The waiting list is based on the order of application, with the spot going to the person who has waited the longest.

Applications are submitted via the form below, and the time of submission is recorded in the system. You keep your place as long as you remain a union member, so don’t forget to pay your membership fee!

What does it cost to rent a dog kennel?

Renting a dog kennel costs 600 SEK per month. If you share a kennel (only if both dogs are under 55 cm at the withers), the cost is split between the two. Occasionally, a third spot may be rented if the dogs are small enough to safely share a kennel.

Rent must be paid in advance to the Union on the 27th of each month.

What happens if I say no when it’s my turn in the queue?

You may decline a dog run up to two times without losing your place. On the third offer, you must accept or be removed from the list.

K9 is the Union’s dog committee, primarily managing the dog runs available to our members. In addition, K9 organizes dog-related activities such as walks, training sessions, and lectures.
